Wendy Jacobs is the 5th great-granddaughter of Thomas Amis and discovered the Amis Mill property while doing family genealogy research back in 1988.  In 2008 the property went up for sale and Jake and Wendy Jacobs purchased the Amis Mill property so it would remain in the family.   Their vision is to restore and preserve the site’s remaining structures as a historic treasure.  They built Amis Mill Eatery in 2010 to generate revenue for the ongoing restoration projects, and serve some great food too.

Amis Mill, in its heyday, was a self-contained community beginning with the 1780 construction of the Thomas Amis House Inn, which was surrounded by a palisade for protection against the Indians.  Thomas also built a saw and gristmill, a dam on Big Creek, a trading post, a blacksmith shop, and a tavern and distillery.

Presently, Jake and Wendy offer scheduled tours to share their historic home with others and are opening several locations on the grounds at Amis Mill as a venue for scheduled events such as Weddings, Private Functions, Church Outings, Corporate Functions, and Tour Groups.  To quote Jake, “It’s more than a restaurant.  It’s an experience.”
