The Amis Dam on Big Creek is the oldest stone dam in Tennessee, built in circa 1780, and a rich part of American history for the area.  Construction of the dam and gristmill were key in producing goods for sale in the Amis Mill commissary for the earliest settlers in what was formerly part of North Carolina territory, now east Tennessee.  The age of the dam is over 230 years old.  Amazing! Though well built, time is taking a toll on the structure and repairs are imminent to maintain its integrity.
